Hey I’m Pasindu, a goal-oriented Product Designer obsessed with figuring out what people need & designing thoughtful solutions that work.
I’m a husband and proud dad to two little boys. Watching them grow has reminded me just how important it is to stay curious, adaptable, and intentional. Building a meaningful life for my family is my north star goal, and a big part of that is doing work I genuinely care about. I believe passion is key to long-term fulfilment, and after a recent career shift, I finally feel like I’m in an industry where that kind of longevity is possible.
From very early, I’ve been drawn to the visual elements of the world around me; art, photography, film, architecture and furniture. If something had been thoughtfully designed and made, I’m instantly intrigued and want to know more.
In university, I studied architecture where I gained a deep appreciation for conceptual thinking, process-driven design and storytelling. I gleaned anything I could from my immediate environment, taking classes in black-and-white photography; developing my own film in a dark room, filmmaking, sound design, object design and furniture making. That time shaped much of how I see design today: not just as something that is aesthetic, but something that solves problems, tells stories and evolves through iteration.
I’ve also freelanced in brand & visual design, creating logos and identities for close to 30 small businesses. I find brand work especially rewarding; there’s something enjoyable yet challenging about distilling a founder’s vision, personality and aspirations into a single mark or symbol. It’s taught me how to design practically and consistently across a wide range of mediums, all while staying true to the core of the brand.
After a short stint in architecture, I found myself frustrated with the slow pace of designing projects like apartment buildings. I pivoted into construction management, drawn to the faster, more dynamic environment where progress was visible and tangible. I loved being on-site, collaborating with a range of stakeholders, and seeing projects come to life. I learnt incredibly valuable lessons in practical management principles; adapting delivery based on project stages, balancing cost and quality, and managing people effectively. Ultimately, after a 7 year career managing others complete more technical, hands-on work, I decided I needed to chase the same, something I touch more on in this article.
That’s what led me to UX. It brings together everything that I love; thoughtful design, user-centred problem solving, and the chance to create experiences that are not only pretty to look at, but useful and meaningful. It’s dynamic, it’s technical and it has real impact.
Outside of design and family, I enjoy spicy foods, religiously consuming NBA content, reading Batman graphic novels and unwinding with a new tv show every so often. I also love running, specifically the half-marathon, and having beers with my mates on a Sunday afternoon. We actually organise events every few months now where we run half marathons around Sydney, stopping every 3-4kms at a pub for a pint before we continue - it’s gonna catch on in a few years.
